Recently was shown a blog of a fellow member of the Free State Fly Fishing Club, Jeff and his blog: High Plains Fly Fisher. I have found it to be very informative and full of tips and knowledge. Check it out here:

Bass on the Fly

Monday, September 19, 2011 , 0 Comments

Within Lawrence exists a honey hole to which I will not give the exact location. I love it because its deep, has a variety of fishing situations you can fish, and chalk full of 3-5 lb largemouth. Traditionally I can go there with deep running 15 ft + crankbaits or with plastic worms fish the weedline and have very successful outings. However, Bret and I have routinely failed to be able to catch any of these bass on a fly rod. Well that has finally changed. On a fly I specifically thought of and tied for this pond, I have finally caught one of these good sized largemouths. I will detail the fly in a subsequent post. Here are the pics for now:

Milford Round II

Monday, September 05, 2011 , 0 Comments

A little over a month ago, my father and I went to Milford Lake to hunt Walleye. The weather was 90-100* and reports recorded fish being caught but in deep water. We trolled mostly deep running crankbaits and cast off rocky points but no Walleye were caught. We did catch some Bluegill,  Smallmouth, and a Small Channel Cat. All fish were taken on a blue and silver Salmo #5 Deep. Later in the after it is likely we saw 50+ Common Carp, we both cast to them with fly rods but couldn't convince any to turn. Then later I caught a 14 lb Smallmouth Buffalo, again on the Salmo. Largest fish of the year thus far.
